Tile ideas for small spaces

Homes come in a host of different shapes and sizes. This means being able to create the kind of domestic space you want is reliant on all areas of the home being to your liking.

When it comes to bigger rooms – kitchensbathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms – creating a style that is to your liking can be fairly straightforward.

But smaller areas of the home are sometimes trickier to bring in line with the overall aesthetic you are looking to create.

In the latest Stone Tile Company blog, we offer a few tips and hints that can help you tile small spaces and get the most out of every inch of your home’s potential.

Which small spaces can benefit from tiles?

Some parts of the home that may not initially be a priority when it comes to your tiling project include a downstairs toilet, wet room, porch and hallways. These areas are not typically sizeable, but contribute to the overall vibe and style that a home evokes.

This is why taking the time to consider the best approach to these smaller spaces can be beneficial. The overall benefits that can be realised are substantial and can enable the creation of a flowing and seamless domestic space with ease.

What’s the best approach for tiling small spaces?

There are a couple of ways you can go when it comes to tiles for small rooms. Tiles have the peculiar ability to take a small space and make it seem more spacious and sizeable. It sounds bizarre, but implementing larger tiles into these spaces can trick the eyes and give the illusion of a bigger space than is actually there.

Another trick that can be used is to lay square tiles in a diagonal pattern. This means the fullest face of a tile is presented to anybody entering the small room, and again has the effect of making the room seem larger than it actually is.

While large tiles can have that impact, small tiles can do the same. They can have the same effect but in reverse, with the smaller size of the tile in this instance creating the illusion that that the space is bigger.

These factors are all space related, but the benefits of tiles in small spaces naturally have an aesthetic value too. Their crisp and clean style means these rooms ooze character and class. This vibe means that clutter and mess just doesn’t sit right, providing ample motivation to keep these small rooms neat and tidy.

Tiling small spaces also affords the opportunity to use colour in a really interesting way. Coloured tiles give a certain aesthetic style to such rooms, meaning that if you have a particular ambience you want in your downstairs loo, you can introduce some small square bathroom tiles for example. Equally, if you want to welcome visitors with a bright porch, tiles can help you do this.
